This report has been written primarily for policy makers and practitioners. Its purpose is to contribute to the evidence base guiding interventions to reduce alcohol-related harm amongst young adults. The report outlines some of the key findings arising from a three-year qualitative research project focusing on drinking amongst young adults in Perth, Western Australia. The research project involved participant observation in eight networks of young adults (aged between 18-25 years old), in-depth interviews with a subsample of participants, and stakeholder interviews with venue managers, policy makers and staff from alcohol and other drug agencies.

The Australian Research Alliance for Children and Youth (ARACY) commissioned the Allen Consulting Group to develop a report based on national and international experience of best practice in organisational change strategies and processes for protecting children, while reducing demand on tertiary child protection services. ARACY anticipates that by advancing preventive strategies, the report will ultimately assist in reducing the incidence of child abuse and neglect in Australia
 
 
 

This brief explanatory document is designed for health and human services workers to assist their understanding of:
•    the new NHMRC guidelines
•    the ways in which the new guidelines differ from the previous guidelines
•    how health and human services workers may use the new guidelines in their day-to-day roles.
