Alcohol Awareness Study 2009 [pdf - 439.78Kb]
Prepared for the Salvation Army by Roy Morgan Research, September 2009.

The results from this study suggest that the awareness of the consequences of underage drinking, as set out in the NHMRC guidelines, is low amongst Australians and in particular, young people.

NAIP Bulletin 12 documents trends in alcohol-attributable deaths and hospitalisations across all Australian jurisdictions. This bulletin shows that between 1996-2005, an estimated 32,696 Australians aged 15 years and older died from alcohol-attributable injury and disease caused by risky/high risk drinking. An estimated 813,072 Australians aged 15 years and older were also hospitalised. This bulletin, which shows rates of alcohol-caused deaths are relatively stable while hospitalisation rates are increasing, also includes estimates of non-alcohol-attributable deaths and hospitalisations.

At the request of the Queensland Aboriginal and Islander Health Council (QAIHC) and Queensland Indigenous Substance Misuse Council (QISMC), the National Drug Research Institute was commissioned to conduct a review of the alcohol and other drugs sector in Queensland. This report makes 23 recommendations in relation to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Controlled Alcohol and other Drug Sector in Queensland. Recommendations are made in relation to: the organisational structure of QISMC; member support; Indigenous capacity; service provision and standards of care; staffing; training; and reporting.

'Safer Nights Out – Safety practices and strategies to reduce alcohol related violence' provides licensees, community and regulatory authorities with many strategies to achieve better safety outcomes in licensed premises and surrounding precincts.
Developed by the NSW Government in collaboration with industry, local government and academia, this resource should be particularly useful for venue management, venue safety plans, staff training and risk assessment.
